Suspension of Ohio State football quarterback Jack Miller is indefinite, coach Ryan Day says
The suspension of Ohio State third-string quarterback Jack Miller following his arrest and charges for operating a vehicle while impaired is indefinite, coach Ryan Day said.
Day did not give a firm timeline for his potential return, citing a need to obtain additional information.
“Just to kind of get more information about how things are going to be handled and what the findings are of everything,” Day said. “So just making sure that we have all the information before we make any decisions about moving forward.”
Miller, a redshirt freshman, is scheduled to appear in Franklin County Municipal Court on Friday.
“At least until the end of the week, he’s going to be off the team,” Day said.
After he was arrested by Ohio State Highway Patrol officers early last Friday morning, Miller was disciplined and did not travel with the team to Nebraska, where the Buckeyes prevailed in a 26-17 win. As part of his suspension, he is not practicing with the team or taking part in other organized activities.
Freshman Quinn Ewers has moved up on the depth chart and become the Buckeyes’ No. 3 quarterback amid Miller’s absence.
Last month, Day said Ewers was not ready to appear in a game, but that he has made strides in recent weeks.
“He's been working hard and getting better,” Day said. “He's starting to just look more comfortable walking around the facility, and he's starting to pick up the offense. It's taken him a little time to pick up the offense, but that's because he just got thrown into it. He didn't have spring ball. He didn't have a preseason. There's a lot to it. It's hard when you don't get a ton of reps, and he's getting more reps now."
