Score “one’’ for Lake Worth Beach. The streak is over.

The Lake Worth High girls basketball team had its 46-game losing streak snapped Wednesday night with a 32-17 triumph over Inlet Grove in their season opener at the Trojans’ home gym.

The streak dated to the 2019-20 season as Lake Worth posted its first win since Jan. 14, 2020, 41-40, over Boynton Beach. It was a garnet sea of joy after the final whistle after senior Christina Bell scored 17 points to lead the victory. The powerhouse Lake Worth boys squad seemed just as stoked.

“I feel like it’s a very positive step forward for the program and the girls' confidence," first-year coach Kyle DeMeo said. “When the buzzer sounded, the girls were ecstatic, jumping with joy. The boys were there supporting us. They came on the court and shared in the excitement with us."
