Warriors star Steph Curry signs multimedia deal with Sony
Steph Curry’s brand is rapidly expanding outside of basketball.
The Golden State star officially closed a deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment for a “wide-ranging, multi-year development” deal centered around his newly formed production company Unanimous Media, The Hollywood Reporter reported on Monday.
The deal, per the report, not only includes film and television, but expands to electronics, gaming and virtual reality. The film and TV development will focus on sports projects, and “faith and family-friendly content.”
“I’ve been blessed to have this platform and I want to use it to affect the world positively,” Curry said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “Partnering with Sony to share inspiring content with a global audience was a foregone conclusion.”
Curry is the latest NBA star to strike up an entertainment deal. Most notably, he joins LeBron James, who owns the production company SpringHill Entertainment. James also founded the multimedia platform Uninterrupted. Former Lakers star Kobe Bryant just won an Oscar this past year for his animated film “Dear Basketball,” too.
“We’re thrilled to work alongside Steph to bring his positive, affirming brand to create content in the scripted and non-scripted television landscape,” Sony co-president Chris Parnell said in a statement. “He’s tapping into his drive and creative energy on the court to expand to horizons off the court and we’re honored to be a part of it.”
Curry is currently in his ninth season in the NBA, and signed a five-year, $201 million deal with the Warriors last season — the largest in league history.
