The Pittsburgh Steelers wrap up the preseason this weekend taking on the Detroit Lions. Typically the third preseason game is an easy week for fans but the Steelers have to make everything harder than it needs to be.
Pittsburgh still needs to sort out multiple starters and see if they can clean up some really ugly football. Here are the five storylines to watch this week
The quarterback battle rages on
Russell Wilson and Justin Fields will split the game again this week and we really hope to see some life out of at least one of these guys.
Improvement on the offensive line
The effort by the Steelers offensive line last week was awful. This is a positional unit to keep an eye on, especially offensive tackle Broderick Jones.
Sorting out the wide receiver depth chart
George Pickens and Van Jefferson are entrenched as the starters but we get one more week to figurue out how the rest of the depth chart will play out.
Is it tight end time, yet?
Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's offense is supposed to be very tight-end-friendly but we haven't seen that so far.
Slot cornerback battle continues
Thomas Graham Jr. and Beanie Bishop Jr. have been tremendous this offseason and we hope the coaches can find a way to keep both guys on the roster. But this game might sort out who gets the start in the regular season.
The past is real, not predictive. That's what Wilson's late best friend and mental coach Trevor Moawad always told him. After his first start and win in Pittsburgh, Wilson's leaning into neutrality to rebound from his rocky Broncos years.
Why are the Steelers considering a switch at QB when the team is 4-2 with Justin Fields? A mix of what's past, what's ahead, and what Russell Wilson can offer.
