Steelers CB Cameron Sutton suspended for first 8 games of season

The Pittsburgh Steelers got the news today that cornerback Cameron Sutton will be suspended without pay for the first eight games of the regular season. The NFL investigated the March domestic violence incident involving Sutton and determined he violated the league’s personal conduct policy.

Pittsburgh signed Sutton less than a month ago on a league-minimum veteran contract to help bolster the secondary. Sutton spent the first six seasons with the Steelers and was the team’s best cornerback in 2022.

Sutton parlayed that big season into a free-agent contract with the Lions but wasn’t a good fit in Detroit. The Lions released Sutton after the reports that a warrant for his arrest had been issued.

It isn’t clear whether the Steelers will keep Sutton on the roster or release him after the news of his suspension.

They are back to square one on who will be the slot cornerback this season. It is hard to imagine the Steelers had any idea this level of suspension was coming or they might not have signed him.
