State bound: Downing leads Dover golfers to district title

The Dover girls golf team is moving on in the postseason.

The Crimson Tornadoes combined to win the Division I district golf tournament at EagleSticks with Mya Downing shooting a 76 to earn medalist honors.

Tatum Tylke tied for ninth with an 88; Livie Hamilton was 20th with a 98; Sophia Wicker shot a 105 to tie for 27th and Rebekah Fockler rounded out the scoring with a 120 to finish 42nd.

The Division I state tournament will be held Monday and Tuesday at NCR Country Club.

New Philadelphia's Olivia Jackson carded an 88 to tie for ninth place as the highest-finishing Quaker at districts. Sadie Compher was 12th with a 91, Ella Lieser tied for 25th with a 104; Kiersten Creighton tied for 27th with a 105 and Kyleigh Jones was 39th with a 115.

Carrollton's Kaylee Russell shot a 94 to tie for 15th.

Dover totaled 367 points to beat out Unioto by one stroke. New Philadelphia combined for a 388 to finish third.
