In the least surprising decision of the calendar year, the Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama with the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft.

While Austinites will surely flock to San Antonio to go see the 7-foot-4 French phenom play in person, those who don't want to make the drive will have the chance to see him in Austin. It'll be a while, but the Spurs have the green light to play at least two games in Austin for the 2023-24 season, with the dates TBD.

The hype surrounding Wembanyama is massive, as many analysts have lauded him as the best prospect to enter the NBA since LeBron James thanks to his combination of size, skill and defensive acumen.

In the 2022-23 season, the Spurs made their Austin debut in the final two home games of the season at the Moody Center. It was a massive success for the team, as the crowds sold out each night despite the Spurs' abysmal 22-60 record. Considering the excitement, it's likely that this year's batch of tickets will go even quicker when the Spurs' schedule is released, so keep an eye out for that release date.

Wembanyama also said he's excited to try the breakfast tacos in San Antonio. Apologies to him, but he won't be able to try the best breakfast tacos in Texas until he makes the trek up north. Sorry not sorry, but perhaps the Frenchman can finally end the war.
