South Carolina women's basketball SEC opponents for 2024-25, including home and away vs Texas
COLUMBIA — South Carolina women's basketball hasn't stepped out of the spotlight since winning the national championship on April 7 and on Tuesday, its SEC opponents for the 2024-25 season were revealed.
The only home-and-home series for South Carolina will be against SEC newcomer Texas.
After a historic 38-0 season, the No. 1 Gamecocks and defending SEC champions will face a now-expanded 16-team conference, after Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC. Coach Dawn Staley previously announced the Gamecocks will start their season in Las Vegas.
The Gamecocks will host Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M.
On the road, the Gamecocks will face Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas and Vanderbilt.
Additional details such as game times and TV channels will be announced at a later date.
This will be the first time the Gamecocks have played Texas since beating the Longhorns in the Elite Eight in 2021.
Texas coach Vic Schaefer will face Staley twice in the regular season again for the first time since leaving the SEC. Schaefer coached at Mississippi State for eight years. The Gamecocks beat Schaefer’s Bulldogs in the 2017 national championship game to capture the program's first national title. South Carolina also beat the Bulldogs for the SEC tournament title in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020.
The Longhorns finished last season 33-5, losing to NC State in the Elite Eight.
Staley didn't lose anyone to the transfer portal and lost just one senior this past season. Kamilla Cardoso is now a WNBA rookie after being drafted by the Chicago Sky on April 15. The 6-foot-7 center's mobility and ability to finish around the rim will be hard to replace.
However the Gamecocks not only welcome everyone else back, they also bring in the No. 3 recruiting class in 2024 according to ESPN. Joyce Edwards, a five-star post player and Madison McDaniel, a point guard are two incoming freshman expected to have a large impact on South Carolina's offense next year. Adhel Tac, a 6-5 post, will also play her first year with the Gamecocks, after missing 2023-24 season with a foot injury.
