South Carolina women's basketball live score updates vs Texas A&M: Dawn Staley, Gamecocks begin SEC Tournament

GREENVILLE − South Carolina women's basketball appears to have everything in place to defend its SEC Tournament title.

The No. 1-seed Gamecocks (29-0) begin their quest Friday (noon, SEC Network) against Texas A&M on Friday in the quarterfinals at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

South Carolina enters the postseason with a perfect record after winning the regular season SEC championship. Senior center Kamilla Cardoso, the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, leads South Carolina with 14.1 points and 10 rebounds per game. Senior guard Te-Hina Paopao, who announced Monday she will return to South Carolina for her last year of eligibility, is scoring 11.5 points per game.

The No. 9 Aggies (19-11) rolled to a 72-56 win over Mississippi State in the second round on Thursday behind 17 points from senior guard Aicha Coulibaly.

South Carolina beat Texas A&M 99-64 in their lone regular season matchup on Jan. 21 in College Station, Texas, with Cardoso recording a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double. Graduate student guard Endyia Rogers scored 21 points for the Aggies.

Texas A&M is led by a trio of scorers in Rogers, Coulibaly and sophomore forward Janiah Barker, who average 12.8 points, 12.6 points and 12.3 points, respectively.
