South Carolina vs Indiana prediction, picks in Sweet 16 bracket: Who advances to Elite 8?
South Carolina women's basketball is in the Sweet 16 for the 10th straight time and can advance to another Elite Eight with a victory over Indiana on Friday (5 p.m. ET, ESPN) at MVP Arena in Albany, New York.
The No. 1 Gamecocks (34-0), in the Albany 1 region, cruised through their first two rounds, handling both No. 16 Presbyterian and No. 8 North Carolina without much difficulty.
The No. 4 Hoosiers (26-5) took down No. 5 Oklahoma in a tight victory Monday, outscoring the Sooners by nine points in the fourth quarter to take home a 75-68 victory. In the first round, Indiana handled No. 13 Fairfield by 33 points.
South Carolina has won three of five matchups with Indiana all-time, but the Hoosiers have claimed the past two, including a 71-57 win in 2019.
Indiana brings one of the nation's most efficient offenses
The Hoosiers are the only team in the country that shoots at a higher clip than South Carolina in both field goal percentage and 3-point percentage. They are first in the nation in both categories, shooting 51% from the floor and 40.1% from beyond the arc, while the Gamecocks are fourth and second, respectively, at 49.8% and 39.8%.
Forward Mackenzie Holmes shoots 67% from field, the best percentage in the nation, while guard Sara Scalia is 11th from 3-point range at 43.5%.
Indiana spreads scoring among its five starters
All five of Indiana's starters score in the double figures, led by Holmes' 20 points per game and Scalia's 16.5 points per game.
Outside of its starting five, Indiana is limited in its production. Its 12.1 bench points per game are 311th in the country and four of its five starters average more minutes per game than any player on South Carolina.
The Hoosiers have struggled against top-tier competition
Indiana hasn't fared well against other top teams in the country this season, especially away from home. Its three losses against ranked opponents came by an average of 21 points, including a 32-point defeat at the hands of No. 2 seed Stanford. The Hoosiers split a season series with No. 1 seed Iowa, losing by 27 points on the road and winning by 17 at home.
Indiana defeated Tennessee 71-57 on Nov. 23 in Fort Myers, Florida, but the Lady Vols were playing without star forward Rickea Jackson.

South Carolina prediction vs Indiana: March Madness Sweet 16
South Carolina 89, Indiana 67: South Carolina should be able to provide several answers to Holmes in the post and the Gamecocks can match the Hoosiers' shooting ability. Thanks to more rest afforded by a deeper bench and an extra day off between games, the Gamecocks are in good position to move to the Elite Eight.
