South Carolina star Ethan Petry out with hairline fracture vs NC State in NCAA regional
South Carolina baseball first baseman Ethan Petry is not starting for the Gamecocks against NC State on Saturday.
The star sophomore, who is South Carolina's second-best hitter, was originally in the starting lineup for the NCAA Raleigh regional matchup with the Wolfpack. But when the game began at Doak Field on Saturday (6 p.m. ET, ESPN+), Petry was no longer in the starting lineup.
Coach Mark Kingston told ESPN's broadcast during the fifth inning that Petry is dealing with a hairline fracture in his hand.
Petry's left hand was hit by a pitch in the third inning Friday during the Gamecocks' win over James Madison. He continued to play and finished the game.
