South Carolina football practice update: Four Gamecocks not full participants in drills
COLUMBIA — South Carolina football had four players off to the side of the practice field working with trainers Friday.
Running back Juju McDowell, wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs and offensive linemen Jakai Moore and Markee Anderson weren't participating in drills during the first four periods of practice after stretching.
All four were in full uniform and were mobile, with no visibly serious injuries. South Carolina did not release information on why they weren't fully practicing. South Carolina's preseason began on Aug. 2 with all players practicing on the first day.
Last August, Anderson began dealing with a knee injury that ultimately kept him out for the entire season, and he redshirted his freshman year. Coach Shane Beamer announced after the third game last season that Anderson would not play and instead work on rehabbing his knee. Anderson was riding a stationary bike Friday.
McDowell broke his collarbone in the first quarter against Vanderbilt on Nov. 11, ending his season with 26 carries for 63 yards. He re-injured his collarbone in March according to On3 and missed the rest of the spring.
Jacobs, a transfer from Florida State spoke to media on Tuesday, with no mention of an injury. Moore also spoke, with no injury mentioned.
Moore is a likely starter at left guard but last season rotated between right guard, left guard and left tackle.
The Gamecocks are scrimmaging for the first time on Saturday, in Williams-Brice Stadium at 11:34 a.m. Beamer will speak to media after the scrimmage.
