Sources: JaVale McGee to join Suns on 1-year deal

Veteran center JaVale McGee has reached an agreement with the Phoenix Suns on a one-year, $5 million deal, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

McGee, currently competing in the Tokyo Olympics with Team USA, was traded to the Denver Nuggets in March from the Cleveland Cavaliers. McGee averaged 5.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game over 13.5 minutes per game in his 13 appearances for the Nuggets.

The 13-year veteran is shooting 57.1% for his career.

The Suns needed to shore up the frontcourt after backup center Dario Saric tore his ACL in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Starting center Deandre Ayton is eligible for a rookie max extension.

McGee, 33, was selected by the Washington Wizards with the 18th overall pick of the 2008 draft and has spent time with seven teams. This is his second stint in Denver after playing there from 2011-15.

He won three titles, two with the Golden State Warriors (2017, 2018) and one with the Los Angeles Lakers (2020).
