The Crew have acquired midfielder Aziel Jackson from St. Louis City for $650,000 of general allocation money, the club announced on Tuesday.
Of the general allocation money Columbus will be sending to St. Louis, $325,000 will be from 2024 and $325,000 will be from 2025. St. Louis could receive up to an additional $250,00 based on if Jackson reaches specific, undisclosed performance metrics.

"Aziel (Jackson) is a young and dynamic talent," said Crew general manager Issa Tall in a statement, "who will fit within our system and offer our coaching staff some added tactical flexibility in midfield."
Jackson, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder, is in his second season with St. Louis following his trade from Minnesota United, the club he originally signed a homegrown contract with in 2021. According to the MLS, Jackson's contract runs through 2024, but there is a club option for 2025.
He has recorded one goal in 41 appearances and 20 starts with St. Louis.
In January, Jackson made his international debut with the United States senior national team in a friendly against Slovenia.
The Crew have also finalized a separate deal granting St. Louis the discovery rights of German midfielder Marcel Hartel in exchange for $350,000 in general allocation money. Such a deal allowed St. Louis to be the only MLS team able to negotiate with Hartel, who they officially signed on July 2.
