Simone Biles still wows at Worlds, even after ER visit due to kidney stone
Simone Biles was in the emergency room due to a kidney stone on Friday night. Less than 24 hours later, at the World Championships qualifying competition in Doha, Qatar, she was as brilliant as ever.
The morning after her visit to the ER, Biles posted the top all-round qualifying score; the top vault score; the top floor exercise score; and the top balance beam score. She was second on the uneven bars. She’ll almost surely have secured spots in all four final rounds when qualifying concludes Sunday. She’ll be the first woman to do so since … Simone Biles, in 2013.
In other words, Biles was as brilliant as ever despite the health scare.
Biles’ ER visit
Biles tweeted out a picture on Friday night of her in the emergency room.
“Nothing like a late night ER visit less than 24 hours before World Championships,” Biles wrote. “This kidney stone can wait. Doing it for my team! I’ll be gucci girls!”

Team USA began competing at 11 a.m. local time on Saturday, and Biles was on the start list for all four apparatuses. She went ahead and competed as planned.
Team USA has won the last five Olympic and World team titles. Biles is looking for her fourth all-around gold medal in Qatar, which would break the world record.
