Former San Jose State cornerback Jay'Vion Cole confirmed on his social media platforms on Sunday that he will transfer to Texas. He has led his team in interceptions in each of the past two years.

Cole, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound corner, started his college career at Cal Poly before playing at San Jose State in 2023. He hails from Oakland, Calif. and was considered a two-star prospect during the 2022 recruiting cycle by 247Sports.

Cole told On3 on Sunday about his transfer plans and later confirmed the news on social media.

He had a team-high three interceptions for San Jose State last season and also broke up 10 passes. He also led Cal Poly with four interceptions in 2022, his freshman year.

Cole joins a Texas defense that ranked 113th among 130 FBS-level teams in passing yards allowed (254.4 yards per game). This season, Texas will replace two cornerbacks who combined to start 23 times last season. Ryan Watts was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round of the NFL draft while Terrance Brooks recently entered the transfer portal.

While speaking last Wednesday at a press conference hosted by the Touchdown Club of Houston, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian still expressed optimism about his secondary. "We're gonna be just fine in the secondary," he said. "I think we've got a lot of versatility back there."
