The Panthers clinch the Southeast and No. 3 seed with a point. The Panthers will finish No. 8 behind the Senators with a regulation loss .
The Capitals clinched the No. 7 seed with a win andSenators regulation loss because the Capitals have more regulation/overtime wins (38-35).
West No. 4 through No. 6 seed

By rallying to force a shootout, the Red Wings relegated the Blackhawks to the No. 6 seed. But by losing the shootout, the Red Wings missed out on a chance to earn the No. 4 seed for their playoff matchup against the Predators.
The Predators clinched the No. 4 seed because they had more regulation/overtime wins than the Red Wings (42-39), but the Predators finished with two more points anyway.
