Saints won't reveal where Klint Kubiak will call plays from vs. Panthers
Klint Kubiak called plays on the sidelines and in the booth during the preseason. Right now, it's unknown where he'll call plays from during the regular season. The New Orleans Saints have made that decision, but want to keep it private to keep the Carolina Panthers from having an advantage.
This is the reason Dennis Allen gave on Monday, and it feels like an odd decision to keep private with a stranger reason. What advantage could it provide? Alvin Kamara said Kubiak told him "he ain't never leaving the sideline." Do the Panthers now prepare differently because the calls are coming from field level instead of up in the press box?
Allen said that, "We get in game mode and try to keep as many things in house as we possibly can, nothing to give our opponents any sort of advantage." A reporter immediately questioned if it matters where the Panthers see Kubiak calling plays.
To which Allen swiftly responded, "Don't know. Don't know whether they care, don't care, whatever. I just don't know if that's anything I want to divulge."
That feels like what it really is. There doesn't seem to be any tangible reason this information can't be revealed. This is remaining under wraps simply because Allen doesn't want to reveal it. Teams often guard details like these as if they're state secrets, but time will tell if it made a difference.
