Saints announce four roster moves before final preseason game
The New Orleans Saints made a few roster moves on Friday afternoon, including two players signed and two players waived. New Orleans brought back a familiar face at linebacker with Andrew Dowell.
As we get further into Saints training camp, players get injured and the Saints need bodies to fill out at practice. You can expect to see Dowell and Camron Peterson in the Saints final preseason game as they attempt to turn this late signing opportunity into a spot on the 53-man roster or practice squad:
LB Andrew Dowell: Signed
Hey, I know that guy! Dowell was with New Orleans from 2020 to 2022 primarily as a special teams player. Dowell's experience in the kicking game gives him a sneaky chance to stick around despite being a late signing.
DT Camron Peterson: Signed
The Saints brought Peterson in for a tryout earlier this summer. He didn't get a contract then, but clearly they liked enough of what they saw to bring him in a couple months later. Peterson played his college ball at Southern University, so he's familiar with Louisiana.
DB Kaleb Ford-Dement: Waived
There are a lot of cornerbacks on the roster and Ford-Dement was likely just a casualty of that. The Saints are heavy up top and players like Rico Payton are making strong cases to stay in contention for a roster spot. It wouldn't be surprising to see Ford-Dement make a return on the practice squad or as a later roster move.
DE Trajan Jeffcoat: Waived with injury designation
Unfortunately, Jeffcoat was carted off the practice field on Day 2 of Saints training camp with an elbow injury. He'll likely revert to injured reserve upon clearing waivers.
