Rutgers football vs Minnesota score today: Live updates, highlights of Week 11 game

Coming off a much-needed bye week, Rutgers football has four games remaining, starting with today's contest against Minnesota at SHI Stadium.

The Scarlet Knights have been badly banged up this season, especially on defense. Coach Greg Schiano said Monday that the week off might've allowed some players to get somewhat healthier, but also acknowledged some injuries won't fully heal until after the season.

Regardless, Rutgers needs a victory − the Scarlet Knights are on a four-game losing streak. Today they'll be playing a Minnesota team that's on a four-game winning streak.

Rutgers also needs two wins to earn bowl eligibility for a second-straight season.

FINAL: Rutgers 26, Minnesota 19

The Scarlet Knights' losing streak is over. They got the win they needed and are now one win from bowl eligibility.

4Q, 7:37: Rutgers back on top

Linebacker Tyreem Powell forced a Minnesota fumble at the Golden Gophers 7-yard line. Defensive back Shaquan Loyal recovered at the 12.

Rutgers needed three plays to get into the end zone, with Athan Kaliakmanis hitting Ian Strong for a four-yard touchdown pass that pushed the Scarlet Knights ahead.

Rutgers is up 21-16.

3Q, 9:01: Minnesota retakes the lead

Max Brosmer hits Marcus Major for a 17-yard touchdown pass to start the third quarter.

Golden Gophers are up 16-14.

Halftime: Rutgers 14, Minnesota 9

Overall a pretty decent first half for the Scarlet Knights, though they had chances to take an even bigger lead.

Athan Kaliakmanis has played well against his former team, going 14-of-20 passing for 216 yards in the first half with two touchdowns, both to Dymere Miller.

But Kaliakmanis did throw an interception in the end zone that killed a potentially big scoring opportunity.

Rutgers hasn't been able to run the ball to effectively, so far gaining just 51 yards on the ground.

Give credit to Rutgers' defense, too, which improved considerably after that first Minnesota scoring drive.

2Q, 9:54: Another Kaliakmanis-Miller touchdown

This time it's a 21-yard pass from Kaliakmanis to Miller to put Rutgers up 14-9.

Duff made another really nice catch on third-and-9 from the Minnesota 48, hauling in a pass for a 21-yard gain that Rutgers the ball at the Gophers 27.

1Q, 0:01: Minnesota kicks a 51-yard field goal, back on top

9-7 Golden Gophers as the first quarter comes to a close.

1Q, 3:31: Rutgers answers back with a touchdown to take the lead

Athan Kaliakmanis hits Dymere Miller for a one-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-goal to put Rutgers up 7-6.

Biggest play on that drive was Kaliakmanis hitting freshman WR KJ Duff for a 37-yard pass that got the Scarlet Knights down to the Minnesota 34. Kaliakmanis then hit Miller for a 20-yard gain on seocnd-and-3.

1Q, 7:56: Minnesota takes early lead

Running back Darius Taylor has scored on an 18-yard run, but the Golden Gophers missed the extra point so it's 6-0 Minnesota.

Rutgers nearly killed that drive. Minnesota had third-and-8 at the Rutgers 48 and the Scarlet Knights nearly sacked QB Max Brosmer, but he escaped and scrambled for a 28-yard gain to keep the drive going.

Rutgers vs Minnesota prediction, odds

Minnesota is a 4.5-point favorite according to Action Network as of Nov. 8.

O/U: Over 46 (-110), Under 46 (-110)

Moneyline: Minnesota -217, Rutgers +179

Prediction: Minnesota, as Schiano said Monday, is one of the hottest teams in the country. Momentum can make a big difference, and Rutgers hasn’t had much of that in recent weeks. The Scarlet Knights could have a tough time scoring against a strong Golden Gophers defense, and their health status is still unclear. Minnesota 27, Rutgers 14
