Rutgers football bowl projections 2024: The Scarlet Knights' status entering Virginia Tech game
PISCATAWAY – Rutgers football is only two games into its season, but the Scarlet Knights are already plenty popular when it comes to bowl projections.
Greg Schiano’s team won its first two games – beating Howard in the opener and then Akron – and will try to improve to 3-0 when it plays Virginia Tech on Saturday (3:30 p.m., ACC Network) at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia.
If the Scarlet Knights can beat the Hokies on the road, they’ll need three more victories to secure bowl eligibility with plenty of good opportunities to do so ahead.
Rutgers hosts Washington on Sept. 27, and the Huskies certainly aren’t the team they were last season when they went to the national championship.
The Scarlet Knights host Wisconsin, which just lost starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke to a season-ending injury, on Oct. 19 before hosting beleaguered UCLA a week later. Rutgers, who last season beat Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl in its first bowl (via traditional eligibility) appearance since 2014, also will host Minnesota and Illinois while playing Maryland and Michigan State on the road – all winnable games.
Is it early to start looking ahead to bowl games? Absolutely.
But here’s a look at where Rutgers could be headed, according to the predictions that are out:
