Rudy Gobert shuts down Tomi Lahren's defense of President Trump's immigration comments
Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert knows what it’s like to be a foreigner in the United States. Gobert grew up in France, and still represents the country in international tournaments despite playing for the Jazz since 2013.
Gobert understands what it means to leave your home in search of something better. So it should come as no surprise that Gobert wasn’t a fan of Donald Trump’s comments about immigrants from African countries. Trump reportedly asked why “people from shithole countries come to the United States” during a meeting Thursday.
Fox News personality Tomi Lahren defended Trump’s remarks on Twitter, which elicited an impassioned response from Gobert.
Do you know what it means to have Dreams? To actually have to work for something? Does the fact that i left France to come chase my dream here makes France a shithole? Or that just applies to African countries? Getting paid to divide people really looks like a shitty job. https://t.co/va2KbfRuSG

Lahren’s tweet implied people who leave their country want to do so because it’s a less-than-desirable place to live. Gobert used his own experience to explain why that’s not the case.

Gobert said he left France to chase his dream, but that doesn’t make France a “shithole” country. He then asked if that phrase only “applies to African countries?” He finished by saying Lahren gets “paid to divide people.”
The 25-year-old Gobert has been sidelined for a chunk of the season due to a couple knee injuries. Despite the downtime, it doesn’t appear Gobert has forgotten how to swat away questionable decisions.
