Rowdy Tellez finds new home, staying in National League Central
Former Brewers first baseman Rowdy Tellez will stay in the National League Central after signing a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates worth $3.2 million.
Tellez, whose tenure in Milwaukee began midway through the 2021 season, was non-tendered by the Brewers before the season and became a free agent.
Tellez, 28, struggled in 2023, hitting .215 with 13 homers in an injury-shortened season. But he belted 35 homers for the Brewers in 2022 and hit another seven in the regular season after he was acquired by the Brewers from the Toronto Blue Jays midway through the 2021 season. The first baseman also homered twice in the 2021 NL Divisional Series in a loss to the Braves.
In one of the highlights of the 2023 season, Tellez was pressed into pitching duty against the Marlins in a blowout win and was thus on the hill when the Brewers officially clinched a playoff spot.
Tellez, who made $4.95 million with the Brewers last year, has a career .750 OPS in six big-league seasons.
