Rockets missed 27 consecutive 3-pointers in Game 7, a new NBA record

The Houston Rockets fell to the Golden State Warriors 101-92 on Monday night in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals at the Toyota Center, falling apart in the second half and blowing a 15-point lead.

Their main trouble in the second half, though, came from behind the arc.

But it wasn’t just bad from 3-point range — it was non-existent. The Rockets shot 7-of-44 from the 3-point line, nearly 16 percent, and missed 27-straight shots from behind the arc — the most ever missed consecutively in a playoff game in NBA history.

They went just 1-of-30 from the 3-point line to close out the game.

It was that bad.

Now the Rockets are known to take a lot of 3-point shots, averaging more than 42 attempts per game this season. They average just more than 15 made 3-pointers per game, too, an average of nearly 36 percent.

That makes this insane stretch of missed deep balls even more unlikely. According to Eric Sidewater of SixersScience, it was actually nearly impossible.

The Warriors, on the other hand, went 16-of-39 from the 3-point line. Steph Curry, who finished with 27 points, went 7-of-15 from behind the arc himself — matching the entire Rockets team total.

With the win, Golden State advances to the NBA Finals, and will host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday in Oakland, California.

Monday’s Game 7, though, proved a simple basketball fact: If you live by the three, you die by the three.

The Rockets, without a doubt, died by the three.
