There is no player with more promise for this North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team this year than the guy we are going to meet now. He helped lead the team last year to an ACC regular season championship, the ACC Tournament championship game (despite being runner-ups), and a Sweet Sixteen birth in the NCAA Tournament.

This season, the aspirations are even higher as he has several transfers and some of the top freshmen in the country along his side. Let's take a look at the Tar Heels top basketball player.

RJ Davis had his best season yet last year. As a senior, he averaged 21.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He also shot 42.8% from the field, 39.8% from the three-point line, and 87.3% from the free-throw line. All three of those percentages were better than his career average.

Davis not only dominated on the court with stats but he was nationally recognized as well for those accomplishments. He was a consensus first-team All-American, the 2023-2024 ACC Player of the Year, and 2023-2024 All-ACC first team, and was awarded his second All-ACC Tournament award.

Davis will continue to serve as the team's starting shooting guard and has the ability to build in his fifth year off of the success of his senior year.

The Tar Heels will continue to use Davis as the main scoring option when he is on the court, and I wouldn't be shocked if Hubert Davis draws up some creative plays with Davis's ability.

Bold Prediction

With Cadeau better as a facilitator and shot-maker it should open up Davis on the wing even more. The ability to shoot from Cade Tyson and Jalen Washington will do the same.

Last year, Davis would have surpassed bold predictions. It is hard to get bolder than the ACC Player of the Year. However, I think he repeats that title. The bold prediction I have for Davis this season is that he will finish the job he started at North Carolina. He will win an ACC Tournament and a National Championship.

Last season as a part of ACC play, North Carolina welcomed in Miami (FL) to Chapel Hill. What RJ Davis did to Miami that night was unheard of in Chapel Hill.

He went on to score 42 points which set a new career high for himself and set a Dean Dome record for most points scored in a game. He shot 14-for-22 from the floor including 7-for-11 from three in that win. He also had six rebounds, an assists, and four steals.
