RJ Davis explains what it was like on the court during his career night

It was a night to remember for UNC star guard RJ Davis as his name echoed throughout the Dean Smith center in the final minutes of the Tar Heels dominating 85-64 win over Wake Forest.

Davis delivered an incredible performance, scoring a career-high 36 points, the most by a Tar Heel since Brice Johnson had 39 at Florida State in 2016. The insane scoring output also was the most points by a Tar Heel in the Smith Center since Tyler Hansbrough scored 39 against Clemson in 2008.

The performance was one for the ages, with Davis utilizing the mid-range as his point of attack to break down Wake Forest defenders. As clean of a look as the midrange was for Davis, it was a three-pointer that ultimately eclipsed his career high, stamping another Tar Heel moment for the senior guard.

Following the win, Davis had the media world in his hands. Davis surrounded by mics, lights, and cameras, shared his emotions after a remarkable night.

“Just to hear the crowd chant my name, and for me to have a phenomenal game like that, it’s like something only you dream of, especially here at North Carolina, so I’m all smiles right now.”

Davis followed up with what it felt like to break his career high.

“I’m in the zone, I feel like I’m in my backyard, just out there hooping. It’s a zone every hooper knows, like when you are in that zone it’s hard to get out of. You can’t hear anything you just see the ball and basket and that’s the type of zone I was in tonight.”

The senior has carved out quite the legacy for himself, and there’s no denying his name should be on everyone’s watch list for player of the year.
