RJ Davis earns spot on ESPN All-America team

With the 2023-24 college basketball regular season winding down, the awards will start to trickle out and we should see a fair share of honors for North Carolina players.

On Thursday, ESPN’s Jeff Borzello handed out his season awards and he put guard R.J. Davis on the All-America first team. Davis was one of five players on the first team joining former teammate Caleb Love (Arizona), as well as Zach Edey (Purdue), Dalton Knecht (Tennessee), and Jamal Shead (Houston).

Here is what Borzello said about Davis making his first team for the past season:

The clear-cut favorite for ACC Player of the Year, Davis ranks in the top 10 nationally in scoring at 21.5 points per game while also shooting nearly 42% from 3-point range. He had 42 points in a game against Miami and is on track to have the highest single-season scoring average for a Carolina guard since Charlie Scott in 1968-69.

Davis has had a fantastic senior season for the Tar Heels, averaging 21.5 points per game. He’s been UNC’s best player by far and is the heavy favorite to win the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year award.

As Davis wraps up his senior season, he will have an interesting decision to make in terms of returning to use his COVID-19 year. But that’s a decision that will come later and the main goal is to cut down the nets in April.
