Rising Boston Celtics payroll doesn’t seem to bother Wyc Grousbeck
If adding additional star power to the Boston Celtics has made lead Celtics Governor Wyc Grousbeck nervous about his ballooning payroll, it isn’t showing. Speaking on the call during NBC Sports Boston’s broadcast of Boston’s blowout of the Los Angeles Clippers, Grousbeck said via Boston Dot Com’s Kaley Brown that “when you bring in great guys … the attention goes to the great guys and the next five guys can really thrive” of the team’s newest additions.
New signee of a historic supermax contract extension Jaylen Brown, in particular, was singled out not just for his play, but what the Celtics co-owner thought of his front office’s investment.
“It’s been the best anybody’s ever seen him play, I think. It’s great because he comes in with more pressure, he recognizes the supermax,” added Grousbeck.

“You invest in making the team as good as it can be. If you can’t do that, you can’t be the Celtics’ owner. That was a simple one.”
