Reports: Miami QB Ryan Tannehill decides to have season-ending ACL surgery
It’s been likely for a week that the Miami Dolphins would be without quarterback Ryan Tannehill for the 2017 season after Tannehill suffered a non-contact knee injury in practice.
And now, it’s clear they will.
As first reported by the Miami Herald and confirmed by several other outlets, Tannehill and the Dolphins are now in agreement: the best course of action for the quarterback is for him to undergo reconstructive surgery on his left anterior cruciate ligament, place him on injured reserve and end his 2017 season.
The recovery for Tannehill, around nine months, makes a return this season impossible.
The Miami Herald said Tannehill and Dolphins coach Adam Gase made the decision on Friday night after discussing the options available to the 29-year old.

Tannehill missed the final games of last season as well as Miami’s playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after suffering a partial tear in that left ACL. He did not have surgery, instead resting and rehabbing the injury.
But just over a week ago, Tannehill re-injured the ligament in practice, and he’s been considering all of his options in the days since. According to the Herald, Tannehill will have surgery sometime next week.
The Dolphins have since signed Jay Cutler, whom Gase worked with in Chicago, to a one-year deal with a $10 million base value. Cutler announced his retirement earlier this year and had taken a job with Fox Sports.
