Report: Xavier picks up commitment from 2023 Serbian forward Lazar Djokovic
Xavier basketball is not done adding pieces to its 2023-24 roster.
One day after completing a 2-0 trip to the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League in Nassau, Bahamas, Xavier landed another international commit in 6-foot-10 Serbian forward Lazar Djokovic for the Class of 2023, according to a report from ESPN NBA Draft Analyst Jonathan Givony.
Class of 2023 🇷🇸 Lazar Djokovic was one of the best players in Debrecen and improved his stock immensely at the World Cup.
A versatile forward at 6'10, was able to do a ton for Serbia. Can score as a floor spacer, shooting from outside or getting to the rim, on cuts, post ups… pic.twitter.com/R28D8h6TQb— Eurohoops Scouting (@EHoopsScouting) July 15, 2023
Djokovic, 19, averaged 14.9 points and 7.3 rebounds earlier this summer in the FIBA U19 World Cup for Serbia, which finished sixth in the tournament. Djokovic had 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in Serbia's 99-73 victory over Japan. He also poured in 18 points with seven rebounds and seven assists in a win over Korea.
Serbia fell to Argentina in the fifth-place game, 87-71, with Djokovic scoring 18 points and grabbing six boards.
Before the team left for the Bahamas Summer League, Xavier head coach Sean Miller hinted at the Musketeers potentially adding another piece, saying, "I think we could add even a second guy (along with freshman forward Gytis Nemeiksa), but we’ll see. That’s atypical, but in today’s world, I think you see it around the country that decisions are being made later and later. It’ll be interesting to see what our roster is in the middle of September and how all of this is coming together.”
