Rapper Meek Mill has gained the sympathy of several sports figures for his controversial prison sentence over a probation violation.

The Philadelphia judge who sentenced him to two-to-four years recently rejected a request from his legal team to reconsider the decision in light of the district attorney on the case not opposing his release from prison on bail.

Meek Mill’s case for release has gained support from Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, who cited a “criminal justice system in need of repair.”

It has also garnered attention from the entertainment industry and several athletes like 76ers players Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz and Joel Embiid, who have visited him in prison.

Meek Mill now has an ally in one of the most powerful men in sports with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft joining 76ers minority owner Michael Rubin to visit him in prison on Tuesday.

Kraft spoke about his visit with Meek Mill — which apparently wasn’t his first — and a relationship that he has built with the rapper through Rubin.

“He’s an amazing young man,” Kraft said of Meek Mill. “I know how I’d feel if were in the situation he is. He’s very intelligent. … We have to do something with criminal justice reform.”

“It’s just wrong. We have to find a way to correct it and also help the community. … This guy is a great guy and shouldn’t be here.”

Rubin has been an avid supporter of Meek Mill’s plight. Bringing an influential billionaire like Kraft into the mix seems likely to increase the pressure on his release and reform.
