Michael Porter Jr. stayed out of the daily news cycle for a few weeks, but his name re-surfaced Wednesday. According to a report from NBA.com’s Steve Aschburner, Porter underwent another back surgery.

On Thursday, the Denver Nuggets confirmed the report.

Michael Porter Jr. has undergone surgery of the lumbar spine at The Carrell Clinic in Dallas,” the Nuggets said in a release. “The Procedure was performed by Dr. Andrew Dossett. There is no timetable for his return to basketball participation.”

Porter underwent a microdiscectomy last November after dealing with back pain related to an injury suffered years ago. He returned to play for Missouri in the opening around of the NCAA Tournament against Florida State but was rather ineffective.

He was selected with the No. 14 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Many expected him to be picked earlier, but a late report ahead of the draft regarding his medical situation forced the slide.

This surgery is yet another scare for the former No. 1 player in the country out of high school. Per Aschburner, Porter, who did not play in the NBA Summer League, is not expected to sit the entire 2018-19 season.

Time will tell for the Denver Nuggets forward.
