Report: Kyrie Irving not opting in to $21 million deal with Celtics, will become free agent

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Kyrie Irving has decided he won’t opt in to his $21.3 million deal with the Boston Celtics for the 2019-2020 season.

The deadline for Irving’s decision was Thursday, and he was largely expected to decline the option.

Once the move is official, Irving will become a free agent, able to sign a contract with any other team — including Boston. He’ll presumably be looking for a larger payday than his previous deal.
