Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen missed two weeks of play in August while dealing with an irregular heartbeat and had to skip a critical NL West series over the weekend in high altitude against the Colorado Rockies.

He has rejoined the team to finish a road trip against the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals, but will “100 percent” need a heart procedure after the season, Spectrum SportsNet’s Alanna Rizzo reports.

Report: Kenley Jansen to have second heart ablation procedure

Jansen had a heart ablation procedure in 2012 to treat his irregular heartbeat and has taken medication off and on to control the condition since. Rizzo spoke with the doctor who performed his 2012 procedure, who told her he will have another two weeks after the end of the season.

Cardiac ablation is a procedure that commonly uses catheters threaded through a vein or artery in the groin to deliver energy to the heart to correct an abnormal heartbeat.

Rizzo also reports that Jansen is back on heart medication but at lower doses than he previously was. The medication is not expected to impact his on-field performance.

Jansen, a three-time All-Star, has recorded 34 saves while posting a 2.89 ERA and 1.01 WHIP this season. The Dodgers struggled in his absence last month, losing five straight games that often involved bullpen collapses. The Dodgers sit one-half game behind the Rockies in the NL West.
