Report: Kansas football expected to hire Daryl Agpalsa as Jayhawks’ offensive line coach

LAWRENCE — It looks like it didn’t take long for Kansas football to find its new offensive line coach.

According to a report from ESPN, the Jayhawks are expected to hire Daryl Agpalsa from Northern Illinois. Agpalsa would fill the void left by Scott Fuchs, who took a job in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans. And now Kansas head coach Lance Leipold should be back to having a full complement of assistant coaches.

Agpalsa most recently held the titles of offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Northern Illinois, where he’s spent the last handful of seasons. His ties to Leipold are clear, given he’s been an assistant for Leipold at both Wisconsin-Whitewater and Buffalo — Leipold’s previous two stops as head coach before KU. It’s not exactly an example of continuity, given it’s still a staff change that’s happening, but it’s about as close to keeping that going as one could get with Agpalsa having coached the offensive line for Leipold before.

Agpalsa would take over an offensive line that brings back key pieces such as Bryce Cabeldue and Michael Ford Jr. The Jayhawks have also signed a potential starter at center in Shane Bumgardner by way of the transfer portal. But with the departures of multiple starters, either to the NFL or another college institution, it’s a position to watch as the spring progresses for who could emerge.
