Report: Jerry Stackhouse agrees to six-year deal to coach Vanderbilt
Former NBA vet Jerry Stackhouse is finally getting his opportunity to coach. Stackhouse, who had been working as an assistant for the Memphis Grizzlies, agreed to become Vanderbilt’s basketball coach Friday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Stackhouse’s deal will be for six years, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The 44-year-old Stackhouse spent 18 seasons in the NBA. He spent the most time with the Detroit Pistons and Dallas Mavericks, playing five seasons with both clubs. He was a two-time All-Star.
After his playing career, Stackhouse served as a broadcaster before getting into coaching. He was hired as a Toronto Raptors assistant in 2015, and led the club’s G-League team to a championship during the 2016-2017 season. He was named the G-League coach of the year that season.
Stackhouse should have his work cut out for him at Vanderbilt. The team went just 9-23 last season, including 0-18 in conference play.
