Report: Eagles tab Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni as next head coach
The Philadelphia Eagles have found their next head coach. The team will reportedly hire Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni to replace Doug Pederson, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Eagles are hiring Colts' OC Nick Sirianni as their head coach, sources tell ESPN. Sirianni spent three seasons as a Chiefs' assistant coach, five seasons with the Chargers, and the past three with the Colts. Now the 39-year-old Sirianni becomes the lead man in Philadelphia.

Sirianni, 39, has spent over a decade coaching in the NFL. He started his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009. With the Chiefs, Sirianni served as an offensive quality coach, assistant quarterbacks coach and wide receivers coach.
After four seasons with the Chiefs, Sirianni went to the Los Angeles Chargers, where he coached quarterbacks and wide receivers. The Colts hired Sirianni as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2018. He has remained in that role over the past three seasons.
The Colts put up strong offensive numbers under Sirianni. With Andrew Luck at the helm in 2018, the Colts finished fifth in points scored. After Luck’s shocking retirement in 2019, Sirianni combined with Jacoby Brissett to give the team a league average offense. The Colts rebounded in 2020, finishing ninth in points scored with the now retired Philip Rivers.
Nick Sirianni has work to do in Philadelphia
Sirianni will have his work cut out for him with the Eagles. Though the team won the Super Bowl in the 2017 season, the Eagles look much different heading into 2021. The biggest decision Sirianni faces is choosing a starting quarterback.
Carson Wentz has put up strong numbers in the past, but took a major step backward in 2020. Jalen Hurts — who the team selected in the second round of the 2020 draft — relieved Wentz and showed off plenty of potential. Sirianni will have to decide whether he can fix Wentz or if Hurts is the better long-term bet.
On top of that, Sirianni will have to turn around an Eagles team that wasn’t particularly impressive on either side of the ball. Philadelphia’s offense finished 26th in points scored. The team’s offensive line was a mess, allowing an NFL-leading 65 sacks. The defense wasn’t much better, finishing 20th in points allowed.
The Eagles finished the year 4-11-1, and will pick sixth in Round 1 of April’s draft.
