Report: Brazil-Jamaica drew second-highest domestic viewership in Women's World Cup history
One of the stories of the Women’s World Cup so far has been the sizable television audiences, and this latest bit of news will only bolster that.
Brazil’s Group C opener against Jamaica last Sunday drew 19.7 million viewers across the country, according to Brazilian women’s sports outlet Dibradoras, which cited a FIFA report.
That’s the second-largest domestic audience for a single match in Women’s World Cup history, after the United States drew 25 million viewers for the 2015 final.
As Sports Illustrated and FOX Sports’ Grant Wahl noted, the Brazil-Jamaica match was shown on the popular Brazilian channel Globo TV, which no doubt helped attract more viewers.
Brazil beat Jamaica 3-0 on the strength of a Cristiane hat trick.
