Refs overturning Louisville's TD after a Miami fumble had college football fans making the same ACC joke
The Cam Ward-led Miami Hurricanes simply can’t win games under normal circumstances this season.
In Miami’s win over Virginia Tech, the game was decided on a Hail Mary that was overturned in the endzone. To beat Cal, Miami needed a 25-point comeback – and the referees to avoid calling what seemed like blatant targeting.
On Saturday, leading 45-38 in the fourth quarter at Louisville, Miami needed another call to go their way. On first glance, it seemed as though Louisville recovered a loose ball from Ward and ran it back for a touchdown, which would’ve tied the game. Officials never whistled the fumble return dead and allowed the play to unfold naturally.
But on a review, the call was reversed. Referees said that Ward was making a forward pass, and the ball touched the turf before Louisville scooped it up. So, Miami retained possession and went on to score again to pad their lead.
After review this was called an incomplete pass.

No way the ACC lets this stand. They’ve been bailing Miami out all year. They’ll overturn this. Refs and review crew will be fired on spot if not.

ACC refs protecting this Miami undefeated season. We need a national referee organization. Conference refs have reason to protect their conference’s best hopes at Playoff bids. That said, probably the right call there re: fumble.

Don’t worry guys, that much lesser rub play that erased a Miami TD was an OPI but this literal leap into the defender clearly wasn’t. Lol
But ya know, ACC refs love Miami.— Danny (@DM__MIA) October 19, 2024
[Whispers] I think replay got that right.

Miami went on to win, 52-45. And so, the ACC still has two undefeated teams that look like playoff contenders heading into late October.
