The New Orleans Saints just lost speedy wide receiver Rashid Shaheed for the season.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Thursday that meniscus surgery will knock Shaheed out for the rest of the year. The team placed him on injured reserve in correspondence with the news.

The Saints started at a historic pace on offense but have since fallen off because of injuries and heightened competition. The team stares down a 2-5 record if it loses to the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football.

Shaheed's injury will limit the explosiveness of the New Orleans' passing attack. It will also leave his fantasy managers in a tough spot, as he was a regular target for quarterback Derek Carr.

However, rookie wide receiver Bub Means emerges as a very solid contender to take some of his snaps in the offense. If he's available in your fantasy league, you should scoop him up as soon as possible. He has five catches for 45 yards and a touchdown so far, but those numbers should rise.

Undrafted rookie Mason Tipton has also factored in some to New Orleans' offense this season, as he has six catches for 40 yards.

Losing Shaheed for the year is a tough break for a Saints team already reeling with injuries, but Means and Tipton presents good options for New Orleans and fantasy managers to lessen the impact of Shaheed's absence.
