Toronto Raptors forward OG Anunoby underwent an emergency appendectomy on Thursday night, the team announced, delivering the news on the eve of the playoffs.

The Raptors did not set a timetable for his return in the press release, but The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that Anunoby is expected to miss two weeks.

Anunoby averaged seven points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game for the Raptors during the regular season. Depth is among Toronto’s best assets, and Anunoby is an important part of that, especially since his defensive versatility allows the Raptors to play multiple switchable swingmen at all times.

That said, the Raptors are heavily favored in their first-round matchup against Orlando, even if the Magic own one of the league’s better records late in the season, and Toronto should roll to the conference semifinals even without Anunoby.

The two-week timeline allows for Anunoby’s return from surgery to a potential second-round matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Raptors will hope the second-year forward is healthy by then, when they will need him against a Sixers lineup that features Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris at the forward spots.

The Raptors have experience without Anunoby from the regular season, when he suffered a handful of minor injuries. They finished 12-3 without the 21-year-old, including two wins over the Magic and four straight victories in recent weeks.
