Raises approved for OU softball coach Patty Gasso, baseball coach Skip Johnson

OU softball coach Patty Gasso’s status as the highest-paid coach in the sport doesn’t appear to be changing any time soon.

Gasso will make $1.625 million annually after the OU Board of Regents approved her raise at Thursday’s meeting in Tulsa.

A raise for baseball coach Skip Johnson was also approved at the meeting.

Gasso has led the Sooners to back-to-back national championships. In her 28 seasons, OU has won six Women’s College World Series titles including five since 2013.

Gasso received a $20,000 raise to $300,000 in her base salary and a $130,000 raise to $825,000 annually in additional outside income from unrestricted private funds.

Additionally, the university will contribute $300,000 annually in retirement income, an amount that is fully vested. She’ll also continue to receive a $200,000 stay benefit each Feb. 1.

Gasso’s contract remains in effect through June 2028.

The additional and outside income grows $50,000 annually each July 1, and the retirement contribution grows by $100,000 next July 1.

Groundbreaking ceremonies for Love’s Field, the future home of OU softball, are scheduled for Sept. 23. The new stadium is expected to open in time for the 2024 season.

Johnson’s contract brings him to $750,000 per year, a $220,000 raise combined from base salary and unrestricted private funds.

Johnson has a $100,000 annual stay benefit.

The Sooners’ baseball team made their first Men’s College World Series appearance since 2010 last season, advancing to the championship series before falling to Ole Miss.
