Raiders QB Derek Carr, with fracture in back, not on injury report anymore
Derek Carr is pretty tough.
Less than two weeks after suffering a fractured transverse process in his back, Carr isn’t even on the Oakland Raiders‘ injury report anymore. Carr was listed as a full participant in practice on Friday and is not listed on the injury report anymore. Barring a setback before Sunday’s kickoff against the Los Angeles Chargers, Carr will start after missing just one game. When he was injured, some initial reports figured he would miss two-to-six weeks.
The best-case scenario for Carr having success on Sunday could be Tony Romo. In 2014, Romo fractured two transverse processes in his back. He returned after missing one game and threw for 246 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The next week, Romo threw for 275 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions against the New York Giants.
Clearly that doesn’t minimize what Carr is dealing with. That’s a painful injury and it’s a testament to him that he can return so quickly from it. It’s great news for a Raiders team that lost last week to the Baltimore Ravens with EJ Manuel at quarterback. Like most NFL teams, the Raiders weren’t the same without their starting quarterback. If he can come back and lead a win against the Chargers, that would ease the Raiders’ minds. The Raiders are a disappointing 2-3, but there’s plenty of time to rebound. It would have been a lot tougher without their star quarterback.
It seemed last week, when Carr was listed as questionable instead of being ruled out on the injury report, that he might miss just one game. It’s still a relief that he got through the week with no issues.
