Quinn Ewers injury update: Steve Sarkisian says Texas QB practiced Monday

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was an early-season Heisman Trophy favorite, but the oblique injury against UTSA caused him to miss the 51-3 win over Louisiana-Monroe.

In his weekly conference with reporters, Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian said that quarterback Quinn Ewers is questionable with the oblique strain he suffered in a 56-7 win over UTSA at Darrell K Royal-Memorial Stadium. More will be known after Texas releases its injury report on Wednesday.

"Quinn practiced today," Sarkisian said. "I would say if, again, if I had to put a report out, he'd be questionable for Saturday.

"I kind of need to see how he responds from today's work, and then what it looks like on a Tuesday, then a Wednesday, which are pretty heavy days for him, and then how he rebounds on Thursday, so on and so forth."

Ewers got out to a blistering start to the season, leading Texas to a 31-12 win over reigning national champions Michigan in Week 2. He threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns vs. the Wolverines and had 185 yards, two touchdowns and an interception before suffering his injury vs. the Roadrunners.

Texas will begin Southeastern Conference play vs. Mississippi State at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
