QB Bryson Daily status is questionable: Army football depth chart vs. North Texas
The ninth Army football depth chart of the season has no changes in the starting lineup and just one change on the special team unit for Saturday's road game with North Texas.
Of course, the most-anticipated news is the status of starting quarterback Bryson Daily, who missed last week's win over Air Force with an undisclosed illness or injury. Daily is listed as the starter against UNT but coach Jeff Monken said his status is somewhere "between questionable and probable.'' Daily was also listed as the lead last week before a late announcement that he was sidelined, and junior Dewayne Coleman got his first start instead. Cale Hellums is next in line, followed by Ethan Washington, Monken said.
"His health is improving,'' Monken said of Daily, who put himself in the Heisman Trophy chase with a record-setting performance over the first seven games. "We anticipate that before the end of the week, he's going to be able to practice, and that will allow us to determine his status for the game on Saturday. So there's a chance. So I'm optimistic because there's a chance and we'll just see.''
Coleman guided four scoring drives in the 20-3 victory over Air Force.
"I'm so proud of Dewayne Coleman and the job that he did,'' Monken said. "(He) was very prepared to play in the game. He's played a good bit this year ... and Dewayne's confident in his ability and our players are confident in his ability.
"But I think there's just something that happens for a guy when he has to take on the role as a starter for the very first time and goes out there and performs that. There's a confidence that only comes from that.''
The lone change on the special teams is Tyrell Robinson back as the lead punt returner, a task he performed against Air Force.
The No. 18 Black Knights – coming off wins over Lehigh, FAU, Rice, Temple, Tulsa, Alabama Birmingham, East Carolina and Air Force - play on the road for the fourth time this season and first since playing at Tulsa on Oct. 5. The 3:30 p.m. ET game will be televised by ESPN2.
