The Detroit Lions selected LSU defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo with the 189th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Saturday.

While undersized, Wingo has been able to make up for it with his agility and quick step to offset bigger offensive linemen. His motor has also been one of his bigger assets and because of his compact frame, Wingo possesses plenty of power to hold up blockers in gaps.

During his freshman season at Missouri, Wingo picked off a pass against North Texas and returned it 40 yards for the touchdown. As a sophomore at LSU, Wingo earned SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors with seven tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and two batted balls in the 45-20 win over Ole Miss.

The 6-foot, 284-pound defensive tackle from St. Louis, Wingo 98 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 13 TFLs, one interception return for a touchdown at LSU.
What Mekhi Wingo showed NFL scouts
Wingo ran the second-fastest 40-yard dash times at the NFL Combine, clocking in at 4.85. His 40 time along with 25 bench press reps, 31.5-inch vertical and a 9.1 inch broad jump put him in the top 10 of defensive tackles that worked out in Indianapolis.
