Predators' Roman Josi came devastatingly close to his first career hat trick. Here's how close.
Roman Josi came within inches of doing something he'd never done before.
Having already scored twice Tuesday in the Nashville Predators' 4-1 win against the Ottawa Senators at Bridgestone Arena, Josi was on the hunt for a hat trick in the third period. With just over 15 minutes remaining in the period, he nearly made it happen.
Josi fired a shot onto the Ottawa net from the right circle that snuck by Senators' goalie Joonas Korpisalo. The puck trickled behind Korpisalo's pads, then directly onto the goal post, before sliding just out of the goal crease.
Watch how close he came to a career milestone.

One inch or two to the left and that puck goes in the net.
It may surprise some Predators fans that Josi has never scored a hat trick. Tuesday was his 18th game with two goals, but he's never once had a game with three goals.
Filip Forsberg holds the record for most career hat tricks in franchise history with eight, followed by Steve Sullivan with four, and Viktor Arvidsson with three.

Josi is the all-time leading scorer in Predators' history, totaling 658 points. He passed David Legwand's 566 point total in the 2022 season.
That he's never had a hat trick makes it all the more impressive that he's the Preds' all-time leading scorer.
