A post-portal look at Arkansas football's 2024 potential depth chart
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The spring transfer portal officially closed Tuesday night. Players already in the portal can still commit to a school and secure their future homes, but the deadline has passed for any new departures.
Arkansas football will actively pursue transfers, and there are still a couple of positions of need, but the roster is nearing its finalized shape. There are five months till the Razorbacks host Arkansas Pine Bluff in Little Rock for the season opener.
Here is our post-portal look at a potential depth chart for the first game against the Golden Lions.
Quarterback
The starter: Taylen Green, jr.
The reserves: Malachi Singleton, fr.; KJ Jackson, fr.
The quarterback competition was more of a coronation this spring, with Green taking all of the first-team reps and leaving the other three quarterbacks battling for the backup spot. Redshirt freshman Malachi Singleton and true freshman KJ Jackson both had solid springs, while Jacolby Criswell left the program and will reportedly return to North Carolina. Singleton is the leader in the clubhouse to be QB2.
Running back
The starter: Ja'Quinden Jackson, sr.
The reserves: Rashod Dubinion, jr.; Braylen Russell, fr.; Rodney Hill, so.
Arkansas lost Isiah Augustave and Dominique Johnson through the spring transfer portal, but the Hogs added Florida State's Rodney Hill to give them four quality running backs. Jackson and Dubinion will see the bulk of the carries when the 2024 season begins, but Russell wowed coaches during spring camp and could have a significant role as he gains more experience.

Wide receiver
The starters: Andrew Armstrong, sr.; Tyrone Broden, sr.; Isaiah Sategna, so.
The reserves: Isaac TeSlaa, sr.; Jaedon Wilson, jr.; CJ Brown, fr.; Davion Dozier, fr.; Jordan Anthony, so.
Armstrong and Broden are locked-in starters, and Sategna had a terrific spring. Jaedon Wilson spent most of the spring injured and will battle Sategna for reps in the slot this fall. It will be heavy competition for the rest of the group trying to secure snaps when Armstrong and Broden need a break. Brown is one to watch, with the freshman having a terrific Red-White Game and already one of the best route runners on the team.
Tight end
The starter: Luke Hasz, so.
The reserves: Var'keyes Gumms, jr.; Ty Washington, so.; Andreas Paaske, jr.
Hasz is the star, but Bobby Petrino has terrific options at this position. Gumms and Washington will fight for snaps as the Hogs' second-best receiving tight end, and Paaske will have a role to play in run-blocking scenarios. This is unquestionably Arkansas' strongest position on the roster.
Offensive line
The starters: Fernando Carmona, jr.; Patrick Kutas, jr.; Addison Nichols, so.; Josh Braun, sr.; Keyshawn Blackstock, jr.
The reserves: Ty'Kieast Crawford, sr.; Joe More, sr.; E'Marion Harris, so.; Amaury Wiggins, jr.; Brooks Edmonson, so.; Kobe Branham, fr.; Josh Street, jr.
This is another position with zero questions about the starters. The backups are fascinating, though, with Sam Pittman still trying to figure out who he can trust against SEC defensive lines. More was a late addition in the transfer portal and provides needed depth. Branham — a true freshman — had an excellent spring to put himself in the mix with the second-string unit.
Defensive tackle
The starters: Cameron Ball, jr.; Eric Gregory, sr.
The reserves: Keivie Rose, sr.; Ian Geffrard, fr.; Kaleb James, fr.; JJ Hollingsworth, so.
The coaches can't hide their excitement about Ball's potential this fall, and Gregory gives Arkansas a terrific starting duo. The depth is a huge question, though, and the Hogs should be working hard to find an addition through the portal over the next couple of weeks.
Defensive end
The starters: Landon Jackson, sr.; Nico Davillier, jr.
The reserves: Anton Juncaj, sr.; Quincy Rhodes, so.; Charlie Collins, fr.; Kavion Henderson, fr.
Davillier began and finished spring as the starter, holding off Albany transfer Anton Juncaj. Rhodes and the two freshmen all have high ceilings, but are they ready to contribute this fall? That's a huge question. Thankfully, Arkansas has Jackson leading the group.
Linebacker
The starters: Brad Spence, so.; Xavian Worthy, jr.
The reserves: Larry Worth, jr.; Stephen Dix Jr., jr.; Alex Sanford, so.; Carson Dean, fr.; Bradley Shaw, fr.
Spence was one of the defensive stars this spring, and he lined up with Worthy for a majority of the first-team reps. Sanford and Dean also impressed and have built up enough trust to be quality backups this fall. Worth, Dix and Shaw are the wild cards, with all three players arriving this summer. Worth and Dix bring necessary experience to the room.
Cornerback
The starters: Jaylon Braxton, so.; Kee'yon Stewart, sr.; Doneiko Slaughter, sr.
The reserves: Jaheim Singletary, so.; Marquise Robinson, Sr.; Anthony Switzer, sr.; Tevis Metcalf, fr.; Selman Bridges, fr.
This competition will rage into the fall. Braxton will be a starter, but the other two positions are still up for grabs. Slaughter won the nickel position this spring and that prompted a transfer from Lorando 'Snaxx' Johnson. Arkansas replaced Johnson in the portal with Switzer, who could play at nickel, linebacker or safety. The most interesting competition will be for the second outside corner among Stewart, Singletary and Robinson.
Safety
The starters: Jayden Johnson, jr.; Hudson Clark, sr.
The reserves: Miguel Mitchell, jr.; TJ Metcalf, so.
Johnson and Clark are the returnees, and they took most of the first-team reps in the spring. Mitchell will push both players, and Metcalf will continue to develop. This could be a place for Switzer to join the competition if Slaughter strengthens his grip on the nickel position.
Special teams
Placekicker: Matthew Shipley, sr.
Kickoffs: Matthew Shipley, sr.
Punter: Devin Bale, jr.
Long snapper: Eli Stein, jr.
Kickoff/Punt returns: Isaiah Sategna, jr.; Jaylon Braxton, so.
