Police reportedly issue warrant for Chiefs WR Rashee Rice after multi-vehicle crash in Dallas

SMU cornerback Teddy Knox, who was allegedly driving the other car involved in the accident, also had a warrant issued for his arrest on Wednesday

Update: Rice reportedly turned himself in to authorities Thursday at Glenn Heights Police Department.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice for his alleged role in a multi-car accident in Dallas late last month, according to WFAA.

Rice is facing eight charges in connection with the incident — including six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and one count of aggravated assault, per the report. According to Lone Star Live’s Joe Hoyt, a similar arrest warrant was issued for SMU cornerback Teddy Knox, who was allegedly driving the other vehicle involved in the crash.

The league is “closely monitoring developments in the matter.”

Rice’s attorney confirmed he was driving a Lamborghini that was seen allegedly racing a Corvette on a Dallas-area highway late last month. The two drivers lost control of their vehicles, and the Lamborghini went onto the shoulder, hit the center median wall and caused a collision with several other vehicles. Video of the crash can be seen here.

Both cars then left the scene, though Rice’s attorney said later that he was fully cooperating with the investigation. Rice apologized for his “part” in the crash, too, and said he would “take all necessary steps to address this situation responsibly.”

Several people were left injured by the crash, including a couple that was traveling to a friend’s birthday party. They were reportedly taken to a hospital, and the woman reportedly sustained a laceration above her eye that needed stitches, a swollen and bruised leg and a concussion. They have since hired an attorney and are considering legal options. A 27-year-old and her 4-year-old son were also reportedly injured, and her car was left “un-drivable.”

Rice, 23, just finished his rookie season with the Chiefs and helped them to their Super Bowl win earlier this year. He had 938 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 79 catches last season. The Chiefs took him with the No. 55 overall pick in last year’s draft out of SMU, where he and Knox played together.
