MATT HARMON: Mac Jones, according to Mike Florio, has been shopped around by the Patriots this offseason. NBC Sports' Tom Curran believes that Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick was, quote, "agitated" with Mac Jones for, one, seeking outside counsel on the Patriots offense, which I don't blame him.
The Patriots installed two dudes who don't know a damn thing about quarterbacks as his quarterback coach and offensive play caller. So Bill Belichick didn't like that. Also-- and this I can sympathize with Bill on-- was not really happy with Mac Jones' constant, like, being agitated, glaring at the sideline, like, losing his mind out there.
Like, come on, bro. You're Mac Jones. Like, you're not a stud quarterback at this point. So I get that part of it. It's also worth noting Mark Daniels of MassLive, I saw, reported that he talked to three NFL sources about the Patriots shopping Mac Jones. One said, that's news to me. A second said that the Pats having contacted the Bucs. Third said that the Patriots haven't reached out to the Raiders about Mac Jones. Just doesn't add up to him.
So, either way, if this is going to happen, it's not going to happen with the whole Mac Jones trade thing. Let's just talk about the weird vibes around the Patriots right now.
SCOTT PIANOWSKI: Yeah, you said it, weird vibes. First of all, first rule of the Patriots when it comes to rumors and sources and everything, Tom Curran has been covering this team for an awfully long time. And he is as plugged in with the Patriots as anybody. So we all have different levels of confidence with different media members and stuff like that.
If Tom Curran says there's smoke with the story, there's smoke, and there's fire. So I believe that Belichick is probably frustrated with Mac Jones. We know, as you said, Mac Jones last year showed his frustration with the coaching staff, showed his frustration with his body language. And I don't know why he decided to become the Grayson Allen of the NFL and just take all these--
MATT HARMON: Yeah.
SCOTT PIANOWSKI: Mac Jones was a bad pick. OK, what member of the defense can I take a cheap shot at now? Just lose that, man. You're supposed to be better than that. Have some respect for the guys on the other side of the ball. It's just-- I hate to see that, man.
But I don't know. Bill O'Brien-- you know, Mac Jones-- this is the time to shine. Bill O'Brien is here. Mike Gesicki is here. This offense is going to take off to be, like, the 17th best passing game in the League next season. You don't want to go anywhere.
The thing is the problem-- the only thing worse than having Mac Jones as your quarterback if you're the Patriots is not having him, right? I mean, Bailey Zappe had a moment last year. But I don't know that he projects as anything more than maybe an interesting backup.
The Patriots don't probably draft early enough to take anybody all that interesting. Maybe they'll fall in love with somebody. Maybe they'll make a trade. I feel like the Patriots-- I believe the Curran report. And I believe that New England would love to trade Jones if they could. I think they might be stuck with each other for another season.
